The Bible consists of "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth". This powerful and amazing book is the inspired Word of God. It is our rulebook to follow.
At True Life Church, we are committed to teaching the truth about God's Word--not just the parts that sound good and not just the parts that are harsh and judgmental, but the Bible as a whole. We believe that the Bible is God's instruction manual which teaches us how to live.
How often do we buy something that has an instruction manual? Do we read the instruction manual to get the most use out of the item we purchased or do we toss it aside and ignore the helpful information? If we buy a desk that comes in a flat box with many pieces, do we follow the instructions and assemble it as the manufacturer specified or do we guess and put the desk together with a little bit of intuition and a tad of prayer?
Maybe while putting the desk together, we get a little frustrated and have to grab the instructions a couple times because certain pieces didn't fit together properly. We find out just enough information to get us by, hope that works, and toss the manual away again.
Maybe it took us three hours (instead of one hour) to put the desk together because we thought we could figure it out on our own. We don't give the creator of the desk enough credit. Yes, the creator knows every nuance of each piece that is used to make the desk into a desk. The creator knows where each nut and bolt belongs because he designed the desk to fit together a specific way. He knows how each piece works together to make the desk strong and reliable for the function for which it was designed. But it's only a desk, after all. How difficult can it be to figure out how to put it together?
Maybe when we're finished we have a few extras screws and bolts left over. Hopefully, when we set our new computer system up on the desk it doesn't crash and damage our computer and cost us more money. Hopefully, the desk is stable enough that it doesn't collapse and hurt someone.
The same is true for living on earth. We have to understand how to live life so that we can win and have a successful life full of peace, joy, and prosperity. That is the kind of life our God wants us to have. He doesn't want us burdened, stressed-out, or worn out. Life is always changing and is full of troubles, difficulties, and challenges.
We must be smart to conquer. We must be smart to win. Our God loves us so much that He gave us a rulebook, an instruction manual to follow: the Bible. He didn't create us and plop us here on earth without instructions or a purpose (see Jeremiah 29:11).
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success" (Joshua 1:8 NKJV). His Word gives us a way to have that "good success".
The enemy wants us to give up. He wants us to fail. He wants us worn out and run down. He doesn't want us to win (see John 10:10). Christ came so that we can win! He wants us to live a wonderful life while here on earth. 1 Corinthians 9:24 encourages us not to give up: "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it." Let's run that race until it is finished and we can claim the prize! Victory is the prize. Success is the prize. Happiness is the prize. Deep-seated joy is the prize. Peace is the prize!
But how do we get there?
We can't know how to live a successful life on earth unless we know what the rules are and that there are reasons for these rules. A bunch of scriptures can be helpful, but when we don't apply them to our life, what use are they? (See Joshua 1:8-again!) We are missing the importance of the Bible. It's not an old book full of meaningless stories and adages that don't apply to us. It is full of promise, wisdom, hope, and direction. By not reading this valuable collection of powerful teachings and life-changing events of others who lived before us, we are forfeiting our prize. We are giving up before we get started.
We can't love our creator unless we take the time to get to know Him. We can't understand what He has for us unless we allow Him to move in our lives. Are you ready to let Him direct your life and lead you on the True path? Are you ready to open this book of wisdom and power and see what He has to offer you?
